punched
last friday night! this, a post i started a week ago, is still unresolved if you can believe that. the other kid has conveniently not been in school all week. my ten-year-old initially tried to cover up that his "friend" punched him in the face from being upset over a game of 4square, a game i knew nothing about.
this where heated discussion starts to rise in the house. i'm going to out-rightly admit that starting fights and posturing for a fight is a huge cultural notion back home. my husband is of chamorro descent, although he only defines himself as chamorro (i have to remind him that he looks white!). so when his son came home with a busted face, he was quick to advise retaliation. i, of sound mind and apparently-crazy brain told him to take the high road: to stand up for himself and not get physical. i grew up being that scrawny kid bullied by the loud-mouthed chauds so it was a sensitive topic. clearly there were no racial undertones with this exchange...but i had to remind my family that the "guam" way was not going to cut it around these parts.
